For three quarters Friday, it looked like the Osceola High School basketball team was headed back to the Final Four for the fourth time in seven years. Unfortunately, games last four quarters.

Sean Combs’s teardrop shot from inside the paint gave Osceola the lead with 31 seconds remaining and his two free throws later cemented the win as the Kowboys recorded a hard-fought 49-45 win over Wellington in a Class 7A, Region 3 semifinal Tuesday.

Osceola hosts Wellington in Tuesday's Region 3 basketball semifinal

As the second seed in Region 3, Osceola (19-5) will host Wellington on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in a Class 7A playoff game. The Wolverines (22-6) beat Osceola earlier this year during a Holiday Tournament in Vero Beach, 70-33.

St. Cloud, Gateway advance to girls hoops regional finals with road wins Tuesday

In crunch time, the smallest player on the court ended up making the biggest plays of the game. Danzy Mantilla hit a driving go-ahead layup with 13 seconds to go to give St. Cloud a thrilling 55-53 win over Lake Gibson in the Region 6A-2 semifinal.

All-County girls weightlfiting — Harmony’s Rosa is a state champ

In the fall of 2021, Harmony’s Adriana Rosa was not sure she even wanted to continue in the sport of weightlifting. As a typical teen, she was being pulled in a thousand different directions between school worries and the ongoing pandemic.
