New Metro/Suburban football districts announced

When the FHSAA approved a new football playoff system Feb. 28, they warned football coaches and athletic directors that actual district re-alignment would take four to six weeks to figure out.

St. Cloud High School athletics saw a major shakeup this week, with veteran Athletics Director Eric Godfrey stepping down and being replaced by head football Coach Bryan Smart on June 1.

Storm, Tigers renew lacrosse rivalry

Celebration is again the high school lacrosse champion of Osceola County. Granted, just two teams play in the county, and they met Thursday for a de-facto county title, but it marks what coaches of both programs hope is the start of more players picking up a basket stick.

The Southland (Flames) Christian School Varsity Basketball team just returned from Dayton, Tenn., after participating in the National Association of Christian Athletes (NACA) Boys Basketball National Championship.

Streak stays alive with 3 Kowboys' state champions

The streak remains alive and moves to 16. Osceola High School sent three wrestlers to the finals of the FHSAA State Championship, and they all won state titles as Anderson Heap (126 pounds), Cooper Haase (138) and Gunner Holland (160) all stood on top of their respective podiums.

Lake Nona managed just one hit again Osceola on Wednesday night, but it was enough to send the Lions to a 3-2 win over the Kowboys.

State wrestling tournament at OHP — Harmony wins regional, OHS hopes to extend streak

Osceola County will be well represented this weekend with 30 competitors qualifying for the FHSAA State Wrestling Championships, which runs Thursday through Saturday at the Silver Spurs Arena. For the first time, the championships feature an official girls’ state tournament.
Joined by the Bulldogs’ Unified Cheer team, the St. Cloud Adaptive Basketball team won the FHSAA state championship Friday.

The St. Cloud Adaptive Basketball team won its first FHSAA state championship last week, defeated Plant City High School, 50-37, at Lakeland’s RP Funding Center. They were joined by the Bulldogs’ Unified Cheer Team.

More questions than answers -- new football playoff proposal passes

The FHSAA Board of Directors Monday passed a proposal -- barely, by a 9-7 margin -- to change the way high school football teams are classified and how the post-season is conducted. The vote clears the way to put a plan in place authored by Dunellon High School Football Coach Price Harris.

Kissimmee Indios take Osceola Senior Softball title

The Kissimmee Indios won the championship last week in the annual Osceola Senior Softball League, a group of players over 55 years old that’s been active in the city of Kissimmee for nearly 30 years.
