St. Cloud used stifling defense to limit East River to 10 first-half points, cruising to an easy 52-33 win in a Class 6A Region 2 quarterfinal playoff game Thursday at Coach Mac Court.

Playing controversially a man down, Celebration surrendered the game-winner goal with eight seconds remaining in the first extra-time period as Sarasota Riverview took a 2-1 decision over the Storm in a Class 7A regional quarterfinal game Wednesday.

The first stop of the 2022 St. Croix Bassmaster Southern Open was right here on West Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes last weekend. Participants from 30 states and Japan and Canada made up the 225-boat field, each with anglers fishing on the Pro and Co-Angler sides.

Another title for Bulldogs — regional playoffs start Thursday

Thanks to their third straight district title, the St. Cloud will host East River Thursday at 7 p.m. in a Region 6A-2 girls basketball quarterfinal. On Friday, sophomore Emily Lockey poured in 18 of her game-high 29 points in the second quarter as the Bulldogs (18-8) dismantled East Ridge, 71-33.

District boys’ basketball playoff action begins this week as all eight county teams and City of Life Christian will be in action. District champs will automatically advance to the regional playoffs, while the four highest ranked non-district champions also advance.

Storm claims soccer district title with OT win

The Celebration Storm punched their ticket to the boys soccer regional playoffs Tuesday with a 3-2 overtime win over Olympia. The District 7A-5 title is CHS’ sixth in school history.  The win insures at least one more home game for Celebration, Wednesday’s 7 p.m. Region 2 quarterfinal.
