St. Cloud settles with landfill operator over leachate operations

The St. Cloud City Council has reached an agreement to pay Waste Connections of Osceola County, who operates the local JED Landfill, $2.48 million and to resume treating leachate at its sewage treatment plant.

Osceola’s connection to 2016 tragedy lives on

Sunday marked the sixth anniversary of the horrific Pulse nightclub shooting, when a gunman took the lives of 49 people at the club just south of downtown Orlando. The tragedy took place in Orange County, but its tragic impacts were felt here in Osceola.

Monday, the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office shared the results of an operation to corral sexual offenders who remained in violation of state statute — 56 arrests. In conjunction with the United States Marshals, the department wrapped up Operation Bad Apple, which started March 28, on Friday.

Osceola County schools will have two new principals when school starts back up Aug. 10. The School Board approved these appointments at its June 7 meeting: Dr. La Tonia Harris, Principal at Liberty High School: Dr. Harris replaces Misty Cruz, who will become the principal at Parkway Middle.

On your mark, get set, ruffle those feathers, duckies! Friday marked Pathway Homes’ second Duck Race at Island H20 Water Park. These ducks made quite the splash fundraising to prevent homelessness in the Central Florida area.
