Bulldogs win boys golf district; Storm girls earn regional bid

Austin Price and Gunner Green shot matching oneover par 73s to lead the St. Cloud Bulldogs to the District 3A-9 championship Monday, the Bulldogs’ first district title in 18 years. Green made birdie on three of the first four holes at Royal St.

The Harmony Longhorns won the District 6A-10 volleyball tournament last week, and play Winter Haven in the regional playoffs tonight at 7 p.m.

Thanks to winning district championships, Harmony and Gateway will host regional quarterfinal matches on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Harmony welcomes Winter Haven in Class 6A, and Gateway will host Fivay in Class 5A.

For the first time in a decade, Osceola High will not be adding a district championship to their resume. West Orange (8-1, 4-0) used big play after big play to defeat Osceola (6-2, 3-1), 35-21, and clinch the Class 8A, District 9 title.

Heading into the 2021 season, Tohopekaliga boys cross country coach Matt Fenn said his team’s depth would be the strength of his squad. He wasn’t kidding. On Thursday, his sixth runner – usually a non-scoring participant – decided the Orange Belt Conference Championship in favor of the Tigers.

For the third year in a row, the St. Cloud Bulldogs swept the Orange Belt Conference boys and girls golf championships, held Monday and Tuesday at Royal St. Cloud Golf Club. While the win has become common, the dominance shown by St. Cloud was uncommon.

On a night when they named its stadium after a former legend, the Osceola got a legendary effort from its defense as the Kowboys won their sixth straight game with a 26-6 district win over Dr. Phillips on Friday night.
