Thursday morning, Osceola County unveiled a new official website version of Osceola.org, which officials say offers a more user-friendly interface and faster load times they say will "enhance the online experience" for users.

County breaks ground on 18th fire station

Osceola County has broken ground on its 18th fire station, to be located west of Kissimmee.Osceola County Fire Rescue & EMS held the groundbreaking ceremony for Fire Station 75 on Wednesday. The station will be located at 7701 Funie Steed Road, just south of U.S. Highway 192, west of Interstate 4.
The recommended Osceola County budget for fiscal year (FY) 2025, tentatively approved by county commissioners at a July 15 meeting, is set for $1.96 billion.

Help Now of Osceola, for its work in the community advocating for and reaching out to help support victims and survivors of domestic violence while striving to end it, is a local gem.

The organization is celebrating 40 years of work in the community, and took the opportunity last week to recognize individuals and groups — gems themselves — in the fight with them in making Osceola County a place where domestic violence becomes a thing of the past.

As part of that anniversary, it presented this video documenting where Help Now came from and where it is today.

Osceola County approves $2.6 billion budget; road projects make it big

This week, the Osceola County Board of County Commissioners approved a $2.6 billion county budget for the 2024 fiscal year, which begins in October. Prior to adding in capital projects like road expansions and new fire stations, the proposed budget stood at $1.
The board will further discuss improvements to the Tenants Bill of Rights ordinance at a Jan. 23 workshop, after taking input from local stakeholders.

Instead of approving a measure to send an ordinance to the state Tenants Bill of Rights and flood disclosures to benefit Osceola County renters, County Commissioners at Monday’s meeting agreed to wait until after a January workshop.

Former Kissimmee Mayor and Osceola County Commissioner Jim Swan — a man who proclaimed to “participate in politics” rather than be a politician — passed away Saturday at the age of 74.
