Do you want to take the opportunity to make a difference, impact or both in the life of an Osceola County elementary school student?
The Education Foundation of Osceola County is offering that chance through its “Bookmark Buddies” mentoring program.
The Foundation is in urgent need of mentors across nearly 20 county elementary schools. Education Foundation Executive Director Kerry Avery notes that more than 100 students, most in third grade are waiting to be matched with a mentor.
“With spring testing quickly approaching, this support is critical—Bookmark Buddies helps students strengthen their reading skills so they can successfully move on to fourth grade,” she said. “Would you consider helping us change a life?”
You can assist by becoming a mentor for third graders — the grade level that experiences the state’s testing protocols to advance — who need a little extra reading support. The commitment is about one hour in total, including travel time. The only requirement is a brief training. The Education Foundation provides all materials.
If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in mentoring and helping shape one life and a community, go to www.foundationosceola.org/bookmark-buddies for more information and fort the registration starts.
The goal is to have all mentors matched by the first week of February, and the Education Foundation will highlight the support with a social media post or short video of your team in action.
