'Soldier City' marks Veterans Day weekend

Following Friday’s annual Veterans Day dinner, veterans, first responders, and patriotic citizens participated in a early Saturday morning 5K “Ruck March” that from downtown St. Cloud to the lakefront and back that raised funds for veteran equestrian therapy programs at the McCormick Research Institute.

Later, the St. Cloud Veterans Day Parade got underway, with participants from numerous Osceola County veterans’ organizations, first responders, and Junior ROTC cadets from St. Cloud, Harmony, and Tohopekaliga High Schools.

Parade floats and the Junior ROTC formations competed for awards. The Veterans Park band shell, complete with a new historical marker, hosts exhibitors for a Veterans Resource Fair from federal and local veterans service agencies, as well as business service providers with specific programs and employment offers available to veterans.
