Pioneer Day 2024 celebrated Saturday at Shingle Creek Park

On Saturday, the 32nd annual Pioneer Day was held at the Pioneer Village at Shingle Creek in Kissimmee. It’s a celebration of Osceola County’s first residents and the pioneering spirit of the late 19th century. Cloudy skies and mild temperatures brought out a large crowd Saturday morning to see exhibits and participate in activities and entertainment put on by the Osceola County Historical Society.

Activities included a kid’s craft zone, and various pioneer games, like the hoop toss, which were enjoyed by whole families. There was some barnyard action with pony and donkey rides and a petting zoo. Historical interpreters were on hand, demonstrating how rope was made, blacksmithing, and Native American life, lore, and crafts.

Musical entertainment was provided by two bands, Sandy Back Porch and Justin Mason & Blue Night, who played throughout the day, and P.T. Mortimer performed several magic shows at the schoolhouse.

Over a dozen vendors and sponsors had displays to sell crafts and food items and provide information to the public.

Santa at the train depot is the next event scheduled for the Pioneer Village, on Dec. 10, from 4-7 p.m. The Historical Society also has a Welcome Center and History Museum at 4155 W. Vine St. in Kissimmee, open every day, with the exception of some major holidays. A variety of special events take place at the museum throughout the year. There is also a restored 1886 Narcoossee Schoolhouse located at 5026 Yukon Street, off Narcoossee Road, near the e station.
