Celebration, Harmony look to defend OBC swim titles

Celebration’s boys swimming team will be favored to defend its title, while the Storm girls’ team is expected to give defending champion Harmony all they can handle at today’s Orange Belt Conference swimming meet. It starts at 10 a.m. at the Bob Makinson Aquatic Center.

“Friday Night Lights” doesn’t just apply to football in these parts. Last Friday, the Tohopekaliga and Gateway High cross country programs jointly hosted a meet, the J.T. Memorial Invitational under the lights at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex.

One of the oldest rivalries in the state of Florida was finally contested on Monday night with the Osceola Kowboys coming away with a 56-0 win over St. Cloud in the 98th meeting between the two schools. The game was originally scheduled for Aug. 27, but was postponed because of Covid-tracing issues.

Junior running backs Tyler Emans and Cooper Richards both turned in 100-yard rushing performances and combined for five touchdowns as the Harmony Longhorns (3-1) ran past the Gateway Panthers (1-3), 49-6 Friday night.

Let’s try this again. The annual Osceola-St. Cloud rivalry football game will — finally, we hope — take place for the 98th time on Monday at OHS at 7 p.m. The game was supposed to be played in Week 1 on Aug. 27, but COVID-19 tracing protocols forced a postponement.

Big defensive plays and two scores on that side of the ball helped Osceola break open a scoreless game in the second quarter and roll to a 40-14 win at Olympia in its District 8A-9 opener that was delayed an hour by a lightning delay -- stop us if you've heard that before.
