Orlando has become the epicenter of international soccer, hosting a spectacular lineup of matches featuring some of the world's most prestigious clubs and national teams over the next six months.
The soccer extravaganza kicked off on Jan. 15 with the FC Series match between Brazilian powerhouses Cruzeiro and São Paulo at Inter&Co Stadium. While São Paulo supporters dominated the stands numerically, Cruzeiro's passionate fans made their presence known with vibrant chants and displays. The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, showcased the distinctive Brazilian style of play.
The intensity amplified on Jan. 18 when one of Brazil's biggest derbies – a match between local rivals – came to Orlando, as bitter rivals Cruzeiro and Atlético Mineiro faced off in the second match of the FC Series. This one lived up to its reputation, with opposing fans separated to opposite sides of the stadium. Though the match ended in a goalless draw, it delivered plenty of excitement with numerous fouls and yellow cards, demonstrating the fierce nature of this historic rivalry.
The FC Series continues with Orlando City hosting Clube Atlético Mineiro on Saturday.
Adding to the excitement, the U.S. Men's National Team faced Costa Rica at Inter&Co Stadium Thursday, securing a commanding 3-0 victory over Costa Rica on a frigid 40-degree night continuing their momentum after a 3-1 win against Venezuela in Miami in the ramp up to the upcoming Concacaf Nations League and 2026 World Cup.
Vancouver Whitecaps' Brian White initiated the scoring in the 21st minute, connecting with a precise through ball from Diego Luna, who had earlier recovered from a bloody nose. White's clinical finish eluded a desperate defender's slide. The city's two venues – Camping World Stadium and Inter&Co Stadium – will host several marquee matchups, including European giants Juventus FC and Manchester City, Portuguese powerhouse SL Benfica against Auckland City FC, Brazilian favorites CR Flamengo against Club León and Asian champions Ulsan HD vs. African representatives Mamelodi Sundowns FC.
This prestigious tournament marks the first time the expanded 32-team format will be used, placing Orlando at the center of global soccer attention.
