School News — no makeup days needed for Ian; district job fair Thursday

Students and staff will not have to make up Hurricane Ian days

The Osceola County School District announced that students and teachers in Osceola County schools will NOT have to make up the five instructional days school closed due to Hurricane Ian (Sept. 27-30, and Oct. 3).

That is because the District exceeds the state requirement on instructional minutes.

However, if any additional days are missed this school year during the remainder of hurricane season, students and staff may be required to make up the new additional time.

Osceola School District holding ‘major’ Job Fair Ttoday

As reported last week, four School District of Osceola County departments will participate in a joint job fair Thursday (Oct. 13) from 8 a.m. to noon. It will be held at 401 Simpson Road, adjacent to the district’s Transportation center.

Representatives from the Transportation Services, Maintenance, School Nutrition and Custodial departments will be present, to interview people interested in working with the district. This job fair comes as the district continues to navigate its on-going teacher and bus driver shortage.

Individuals who are interested can apply for any position. Wages start out at $15 an hour across the district, and the employees receive health care benefits as well as the option to join the state of Florida’s retirement plan.
