Travel down the Latin Culinary Trail—it’s in Osceola, and here’s how

Another Hispanic Heritage Month has wrapped up, but for those who still want to enjoy Latino food culture in Osceola County, Experience Kissimmee has partnered with Atlas Obscura to create the Latin Culinary Trail.

The trail currently includes 20 privately or family-owned restaurants, cafes or food trucks that capture the authentic local flavors of their owners’ home countries that, as the tourism marketing arm puts it, “Give travelers and residents alike a deeper understanding of the people, traditions, and flavors that have shaped Kissimmee’s food landscape.” The flavors you’ll find on the trail (at https://kissimmee-latin-culinary-trail.atlasobscura.com) include those of Puerto Rico, Argentina, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Brazil and Mexico.

“With more than 55 percent of Osceola County identifying as Hispanic or Latino, our community’s culture and cuisine are central to the Kissimmee experience,” Experience Kissimmee President and CEO DT Minich said. “Partnering with Atlas Obscura allows us to shine a spotlight on these traditions, showcasing hidden gems and culinary destinations that tell a larger story.”

Atlas Obscura is a media company and online travel platform that focuses on exploring and documenting the world’s most unusual, and possibly hidden within a town, wonderous foods, and experiences. It serves as a guide for travelers and curious minds who are interested in discovering things beyond the typical tourist attractions.

“Food has the power to tell stories that go beyond the plate,” said Louise Story, Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Obscura. “Through this partnership with Experience Kissimmee, we enjoyed uncovering these hidden gems and are excited to highlight these restaurants and culinary experiences that reveal the rich history, culture, and creativity of the local Hispanic and Latino communities. These small businesses are the heartbeat of the city, and the Latin Culinary Trail is simply not to be missed.”

On the strength of the culinary trail, Atlas Obscura has even curated Kissimmee’s own “Things to Do” page on its website (https://www.atlasobscura.com/things-to-do/kissimmee-florida)
