Poinciana mother ruled incompetent for trial

Kelsey Glover, the Poinciana mother who police say drowned her 14-year-old daughter in a bathtub on Nov. 20, 2024, has been ruled unfit to stand trial.

At a competency hearing on April 9, Dr. Katherine Oses and Dr. Leonard Skinzynski testified that Glover, 35, is incompetent for trial, in which she is charged with first degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. A charge of misdemeanor battery has been dropped.

The doctors diagnosed her with bipolar disorder and exhibited “medically psychotic features”.

In response, Judge John Beamer found Glover incompetent, and remanded her to a state hospital. He set a Nov. 5 hearing to review her competency based on medical treatment.

According to a report from the November, a live-in companion who assisted Glover in caring for her two children, noted the mother had taken 14-year-old Giselle Glover off of her insulin medication, leaving the girl ill and bedridden. After the companion argued with the mother about the teen needing medical assistance–and the mother refusing to take her for medical treatment–Glover reportedly put the girl in the bathtub, grabbed her by the hair and held her head under water. The companion was able to remove the girl from the water, the report states, and began CPR.

When the caretaker tried to call 911, Glover reportedly grabbed a hammer and chased her through the house. “Law enforcement observed several holes in the door that were consistent with the hammer striking the door,” court documents say.
