UCP expanding charter offerings in Osceola with new facility

Hopes to open in 2026-27 school year

UCP of Central Florida, a charter school network that serves students with and without disabilities, announced last week it has purchased land to make a significant expansion to its Osceola County campus.

The parcel is located just east of downtown near U.S. Highway 192 and Oak Street, where a 37,000 square foot state-of-theart educational and pediatric therapy facility will be built over the next two years, with the intent to open for the 2026-27 school year.

UCP said the campus will be designed to support the wide spectrum of educational needs its students require, through use of cutting-edge technology and specialized resources in classrooms, said UCP President and CEO Ilene Wilkins.

“We received a five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Education,” Wilkins said. “This is a part of our strategic plan to own all of our buildings. Thus far Osceola County is the only location we have not done that yet. It took a long time to find a UCP Osceola currently serves 330 children at its Armstrong Avenue campus near Plaza Del Sol, and will migrate to the new location. At full capacity, the new campus will offer its education and therapy services for an additional 100 children. It will offer 20 new professional staffing positions, including teachers, therapists and administrative staff.

The new campus will feature an enhanced pediatric therapy facility that will offer physical (PT) occupational therapy (OT) and speech therapy, ensuring the services students with needs require as part of their Individual Education Plans (IEP).

“We are thrilled to expand our presence in Osceola County. The new UCP Osceola Campus will enable us to reach even more children, providing them with the skills and support they need to succeed academically and personally,” Wilkins said.

She said that, in the middle years of the grant period, UCP hopes to offer a virtual charter offering to students.
