Brace for rain, wind, flooding Tuesday and Wednesday as Tropical Storm Elsa approaches

Enjoy your Independence Day weekend! But keep an eye out that Tropical Storm Elsa won't let it go, and will likely affect our weather from late Tuesday through the day on Wednesday. The National Hurricane Center projects the center of Elsa, packing maximum sustained winds of 60 mph as of the 11 a.

Weather watching

Showers and storms are going to be likely every day this week and likely continue right on through the July Fourth holiday weekend. They could certainly pose a problem for Independence Day activities. The 4th of July is one of my favorite holidays.

Company donates translation services to nonprofit

In an effort to better serve those in crisis, a local language interpretation company is donating services to The Center. Orlando-based CCI Group will offer translations and interpretations for people served by The Center, an LGBTQ+ organization with offices in Kissimmee and Orlando.

OSCEOLA COUNTY JAIL AWARDED ‘EXCELSIOR’ RECOGNITION

The Osceola County Corrections Department has earned the “Excelsior” recognition and has been reaccredited by the Florida Corrections Accreditation Commission (FCAC) for providing a safe, secure and humane environment for inmates.

LOCAL NURSE HONORED

Monica Ajibola, a nurse for DaVita Kidney Care in Kissimmee, was recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses during National Nurses Week. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

Back with a bang

After spending July 4 at home last year, we’re all looking forward to a reason to celebrate Independence Day out and about and under the stars this summer. Celebrations date back to the 18th century and the American Revolution.
