Spring football: Longhorns look to take next step

During a year when the pandemic cancelled spring football, delayed the start of the regular season, resulted in cancellations and regular season games being played in December, Harmony Head Coach Don Simon did an outstanding job of holding a young team together.

During a year when the pandemic cancelled spring football, delayed the start of the regular season, resulted in cancellations and regular season games being played in December, Harmony Head Coach Don Simon did an outstanding job of holding a young team together.

Junior Ailey Schyck drove in four runs on a pair of towering home runs and Kaley Wells had three RBI on a pair of doubles as West Orange defeated Osceola, 10-5, in an FHSAA Class 7A, Region 3 quarterfinal game last Thursday night at Coffey Field.

Harmony captures baseball district title

Harmony scored five runs in the bottom of the third inning and then held off a St. Cloud rally to beat the Bulldogs and claim the Class 6A, District 6 baseball championship on Thursday night.

Junior Drew Rosenberg fired a one-hit shutout to lead the Lake Nona Lions to a 3-0 win over Osceola in the championship game of the Class 7A, District 6 baseball tournament. Rosenberg, who went to 4-1 on the season while lowering his teamleading ERA to 0.

One of the most successful eras in Central Florida high school football came to a sudden and definitive halt on Tuesday afternoon when Osceola High Head Football Coach Doug Nichols called it quits after a 28-year coaching career at the school – including the last 11 as a head coach.

It was definitely a strange year for boys’ basketball in Osceola County. Some teams were struggling to get games played because of Covid, several teams were adjusting to new coaches and a traditional power made a relatively uncharacteristic quick exit from the post-season.

County athletes hope to qualify for track championship

Dozens of athletes from Osceola county schools will attempt to qualify for the FHSAA State Track and Field Championships this Saturday, as regional meets are held around the state. Osceola will host the Class 4A, Region 3 meet, where St. Cloud and Tohopekaliga will be participants.
