Track athletes bring AAU Junior Olympics medals home from Humble

It’s awfully hot and humid to go for a run, but members of the local Will Power Athletics Club qualified for the AAU Junior Olympics in Humble, Texas.

They competed—and they won.

Leilana Decker, a St. Cloud High senior, won the Age 17/18 2000 meter steeplechase in 7:41.58, beating the field by over 20 seconds.

Fellow Bulldog Kyla Perez placed 15th in the 1500 meters in 4:55.68 after winning regional and National Club championships at that distance.

Alyus Decker and Cailyn Matchuk earned a bronze medals in the boys’ and girls’ 16-year-old 3000 meter race walk, after also winning regional and National Club championships. Angelisse Medina Perez was 15th among girls, and Kalel Perez was a regional champion and 15th overall in the decathlon.
