    At the Oct. 16 A Hero For Kids “Real Heroes Don’t Wear Capes” annual gala, the local organization raised money for its efforts through the year to assist families, children, veterans and first responders. It’s driving force, “Batman”, a.k.a. John Kalish, gave out its annual awards to those who make our community a better place to live. The community cast some 3,200 votes, and the award winners were:

    Volunteer of the Year: Lisa Decker

    Veteran of the Year: Brenda Torres

    Non-Profit of the Year: Command K-9 Service Dogs, Alexandra Nass

    Medical Professional of the Year: Katie Whitt Williams, Orlando Health

    Local Business of the Year: 10th Street Produce, St. Cloud

    Law Enforcement Person of the Year: Joel Nicholson, Osceola County Sheriff’s Office

    Teacher of the Year: Amanda Soto, Ventura Elementary

    Firefighter of the Year: Stacy Marquith, Osceola County Fire Rescue EMS

    Inspirer of the Year: Matt Morgan, Longwood City Commission

    Citizen of the Year: Terry Castillo, Osceola County School Board

    Youth Inspiration of the Year: Hunter Kalish

    Lifetime Achievement Award: Jose Alvarez

    Founders Award: Ally & Brie White
