Volleyball regional berths on the line at next week's district tournaments

Osceola County could see three volleyball district champions crowned next week, with very compelling potential district semifinal matches among rivals who have already played high-tension matches.

In the District 7A-5 tournament at Tohopekaliga, the host Tigers (21-1), seeded second, could meet second-seeded Osceola (19-6) in Wednesday's semifinal. But first, the Kowboys must negotiate Sixth-seed Celebration (10-11) on Monday at 7:30 p.m.

Toho and Osceola have played two high-tension matches this season, with the Tigers claiming them both in four and five sets. In fact, the Tigers have only lost sets to Osceola and Lake Nona, the top seed and the only team to beat THS, this year. Lake Nona plays Monday's Cypress Creek-Freedom winner on Wednesday for the right to play in the championship match, which will be Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

In the 6A-10 tournament at Harmony, the host Longhorns (11-9) are the top seed, and will face either rival St. Cloud (11-13) or Poinciana (3-7) in Tuesday's semifinal; those teams will battle on Monday at 6 p.m. Harmony defeated the Bulldogs in a classic five-set match on Tuesday.

East Ridge and South Lake are on the other side of the bracket, and play in a Tuesday semifinal for a slot in Thursday's championship at 6 p.m.

In the 5A-8 tournament, with matches hosted by the higher seeds, Gateway (6-9) is the second seed and will host Lake Minneola in a Tuesday semifinal at 7. The winner will play at Auburndale in Thursday's championship at 7.
