POINCIANA NEWS — Poinciana Boulevard news around Liberty High; how to serve on the Lakes Committee

Poinciana Boulevard at Liberty High School will have single lane closures for median construction from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Sunday, Aug. 9.  If work extends beyond Aug. 9 into the first week of school, Osceola County will issue an update before the first day of school on Monday. Osceola County is seeking residents to serve on the Lakes Advisory Committee.  Poinciana’s District, District 3 is in need of 2 Lakes Committee Advisors.  Committee members will help provide input related to the health and well-being of Osceola County’s lakes and river systems. Falls are not a normal part of aging!  Kick-off National Falls Prevention Awareness Month on Friday, Aug. 28 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital.  Falls Free: 6 Things You Can Do Today, a free community lunch & learn will show what you can do today to reduce your risks for falls and maintain your health, safety and independence. Adults can learn Email Basics on Thursday, Aug. 6 from 10-11 a.m. at the Poinciana Library.  Learn how to send, receive and manage emails with confidence.  Along with basics, hear tips for organizing your inbox while staying safe online.

Rhythm, Rhyme & Storytime takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 10:30-11 a.m.  This program is for children up to age 5.  Sing, swing and sway through this program dedicated to music and movement.

Baby and Me takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.  Hug your little ones while sharing this special first-time experience.  This is for children to 18 months. This program introduces books with playtime and repetitive music.

Flex your Fingers takes place on Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Preschoolers to age 5 can enjoy quality time with their parents in kid’s centered learning environment with others.  These pre-planned activities encourage the development of fine motor skills, listening skills, early reading skills, socialization and creativity.

That day, the Mobile Museum of Tolerance will be at the Library from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.  This interactive and inspirational learning experience on wheels provides powerful exhibits about the Civil Rights Movement, Anne Frank and the role of ordinary people during the Holocaust.

In the afternoon, adults can come out and Paint the Town from 1-2 p.m.  Supplies will be provided and registration is required.  To register, call 407-742-8888.

And children ages 6-11 are invited from 4:30-to 5:30 p.m. for NEX Level Gaming. Play, move and connect using the NEX Playground gaming system in a high energy, social space where teamwork and friendly competition takes center stage.
