Ask a Northerner what January is like "up north", and they'll probably describe something that describes what we'll see this week.
And that includes snow on Tuesday -- for some parts of Florida from about Lake City north and west.
The rain that moved through our area Sunday will usher in cooler temperatures Monday, with high around 55 with a brisk northerly wind and a low in the mid 40s. The temperatures will stay the same Tuesday, but the next cold front will bring all-day showers, with . the wind; that's a mix your northern friends will call "raw." While we'll get rain Tuesday, there's a solid change rain changing to icy sleet north of Gainesville, and honest-to-God snow of up to 3 inches in the Panhandle. (A snow day at Florida State?)
Expect much the same Wednesday, and the rain will linger into Thursday, when a slight warm upper is forecast later in the day to nearly 60. The sun returns Friday and into the weekend, when temperatures will slowly rebound, to 56 Friday, 62 Saturday and 70 Sunday.
So the order of the week for those being out and about will include an umbrella, sweaters and jackets, good warm shoes and a warm cup of coffee or tea and a bowl of soup or chili.
It's January. Our friends in the upper Midwest would call this balmy.
