The Poinciana area now has its first bona-fide fire rescue station as Osceola County leaders and its first responders officially opened Station 85 on Cypress Parkway just west of Doverplum Avenue Wednesday.
Crews broke ground on it just over a year ago, when the $12 million project, paid for by county fire service fees, had a due day of this winter. It becomes Osceola County's 16th Fire/Rescue station, with an ability to better serve residents along Cypress Parkway in Poinciana, officials said.
“This facility roots our fire department personnel and their lifesaving service even more closely with the community they serve,” said Osceola County Commissioner Brandon Arrington, whose district 3 includes the area of the new station. “Our firefighters represent some of the most direct, impactful public services we offer to our residents and visitors, and this station provides them with the best foundation to conduct their work at the highest level.”
This station will house Engine 85 and Rescue 85, which were working out of Polk County Station 37 two miles further down Cypress Parkway. It will also house the Rescue 83 unit until it gets its own station on north Marigold Avenue, the next area station on the drawing board that will break ground soon and open sometime in 2025.
Collier said having the county’s first station in Poinciana proper will vastly improve response times in that community.
“This station will make an improvement in our level of service (in Poinciana),” said Fire Chief Larry Collier. “We were losing (up to five minutes) responding from Polk County into Osceola County. This station puts our people in the right place to serve the community in their time of need today, while anticipating the growth our community and department may experience in the future.”
