NEWS BRIEFS — Former St. Cloud Chamber CEO passes away; Kissimmee drug dealer sentenced to federal prison

The St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce reports that former Chamber president and CEO David Lane has passed away. Lane led they chamber for 12 years (2000-12).

A statement was released by the Chamber at the end of his tenure in 2012, stating that “the St. Cloud Chamber enjoys a reputation as an active, energetic organization with a strong networking fiber and above average volunteer support from members.”

“The St. Cloud Chamber of Commerce is thankful for David Lane’s service to the community,” current Chamber President/ CEO Dirk Webb said. “To our longtime members, we know you will remember him fondly.”

Repeat Kissimmee felonious drug dealer sentenced to federal prison
A Kissimmee man, and repeat felon, has been sentenced to 15 years and eight months in a federal prison.

Edward Charlesalton Chappell, 41, was sentenced for possession of firearms and ammunition by a convicted felon. The court also ordered Chappell to forfeit the firearms and ammunition used in the offense. Chappell pled guilty on June 17.

According to Middle District court documents, on July 13, 2022, a state search warrant was executed on a hotel room occupied by Chappell after he sold fentanyl to an undercover agent. Inside the hotel room, agents located cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, and other drugs as well as drug processing materials. Agents also located a Glock pistol, a Ruger pistol, and 9mm caliber ammunition.

At the time, Chappell had multiple felony convictions, including four convictions for delivery of cocaine and one conviction for possession of cocaine with intent to sell or deliver. As a multi-time, convicted felon, Chappell is prohibited from possessing any firearms or ammunition under federal law.

This case was investigated by Drug Enforcement Administration and the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and gun violence, and to make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
