The Osceola County Sheriff's Office announced an arrest Thursday in a shooting that left a man dead at a Kissimmee hookah lounge and cafe on Vineland Road early Christmas morning.
Polk County deputies arrested Gabriel Alberto Correa, 26, and booked him into jail there. Osceola Sheriff Marcos Lopez said he will be charged with murder with a firearm, discharging a firearm in public and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
Just before 5 a.m., deputies responded to a shooting at Café Lungo on Vineland near Polynesian Isle Boulevard. A victim, Terrell Williams, a patron, was found deceased. The Medical Examiner has ruled the death as a homicide.
According to the investigation, the suspect was at the cafe and got into a dispute with an employee. Lopez said they're still investigating what that dispute was about. The suspect then left the establishment and starting shooting it and left. Minutes later, he returned and started shooting again, hitting the victim who was standing near his vehicle.
"The guy starts shooting at the business, then leaves. Why did nobody call to report it?" Lopez asked at Thursday's press conference. "This could have been prevented. If someone would have prevented it, they could have gotten our attention and we could have headed in that direction."
Witnesses provided a description, which led to Correa's arrest in Polk County, where he admitted to being involved in a shooting at the cafe, and even consulted an attorney.
Lopez lauded his units for reaching a, "Rapid resolution to the community."
"Thank the deputies who worked on Christmas Day developing the leads and witness statements ... Violent Crimes unit, narcotics enforcement team, everyone involved, and the State Attorney's office. Everybody worked together."
