Remember what it was like to experience those strong rain storms late in the afternoon after a warm day ... or has the excess heat of the last two weeks "burned" that from your brain?
Well, you many need to go back to needing your umbrella for rain shielding rather than shade, starting today.
The National Weather Service in Melbourne — no, they didn't issue an excessive heat warning, though it will be hot and muggy — has placed our area in a Marginal risk for strong to severe storms later today, after about 2 p.m. and more likely in the 5 p.m. timeline.
Highs should be around 94, with the heat index at 102-107 — lower than the 110-115 we've experienced the last two weeks. But that's accompanied by a 70 percent rain coverage in our area today. A few of those storms could become strong to briefly severe with gusty winds and torrential rain, along with frequent lightning.
And, you can rinse and repeat that through the upcoming weekend. And, oh yeah, the tropics are finally waking up as well, with a area of concern in the Gulf of Mexico the National Hurricane Center is eyeing, and two tropical waves are in the eastern Atlantic; expect at least one of them to become a named system that should stay out to sea.
Happy summer weather, everyone!
