The professional cowboys and cowgirls of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association rode, roped, and raced for a purse of nearly $14,000 in front of packed houses of 15,000 fans combined at last weekend’s 151st Silver Spurs Rodeo.
But the cash wasn’t just flowing to the competitors. The Silver Spurs Riding Club, in keeping with its tradition of giving back to local charities. Rodeo Big Boss, in one of his final acts before “passing the hat” to an incoming Boss, presented $3,000 checks to both the Osceola Guardian Ad Litem program, which helps place foster children with loving families, and the Boys & Girls Club of St. Cloud, which began hosting the first of its summer camps Monday.
The rodeo was also the public’s first chance to meet the 2023 Silver Spurs Rodeo Queen court: Miss Silver Spurs Riley DeRosa, Junior Miss Lindsey Yma and Little Miss Ivey Rousch. They were crowned Thursday night.
As for the cowboys, collecting prize money for the standings to qualify for the National Finals Rodeo later this year, note that, between saddle bronc and bull riding, there were just two qualified finals rides, a testament to the toughness of the Silver Spurs Riding Club’s stock
