1 dead, 2 injured in Vine-OBT shooting

One person is dead and two others are injured after shots rang out in front of a restaurant in a busy section of Kissimmee just north of downtown Thursday.

It is the second shooting fatality of the day Kissimmee Police are investigated, after an 18-year-old was shot and killed in North Kissimmee in the morning.

As of 4:30 p.m., there were no suspects in either case, as KPD said the shooters remain at large.

At 1:47 p.m., KPD said they responded to a call of shots being exchanged in front of Mighty Wings at 100 West Vine Street. According to employees of nearby stores in the shopping center that shares the expansive parking lot,, they heard as many as seven shots ring out. When they came out of the store to check it out, they saw a person -- no information if the person was male of female -- lying shot in the parking lot. The first responders on the scene rendered aid and CPR, and the victim was then taken away in an unknown vehicle, the employees said.

KPD Deputy Chief Betty Holland confirmed one person was shot and killed in the parking lot, and another was injured and taken to a hospital being treated for injuries. A stray bullet also hit a car passing by on Vine Street and an occupant was also injured, but Holland could not confirm if the injury came from the bullet or shattering window glass. The incident necessitated the closure of Vine Street from Orange Blossom Trail/Main Street and Central Avenue for about two hours.

As many as a dozen evidence markers lined the parking lot during the investigation Thursday. Holland could not confirm the number, saying it was "more than 10."

Police also confirmed a shooting fatality that occurred Thursday morning around 11 a.m. along the Kissimmee Trail between Dyer Boulevard and Thacker Avenue near the Cascades and Vineyards apartments. Holland said a male suspect approached the 17 and 18-year-old males and opened fire. The 18-year-old died, the 17-year-old is reportedly recovering from his injuries in the incident.

The Thursday afternoon shooting is around the block from another shooting on March 18 on Central Avenue across the street from Central Avenue Elementary School, another shooting KPD is investigating without a suspect at this time. . A balloon memorial is still in place from that tragedy.

Holland said that all three incidents are considered isolated incidents, targeted to their victims.
