Some might look at that title and think, “That’s a little presumptuous of him to think he can offer a Christmas blessing.”
A few others might say, “Good! I can use any blessing I can possibly get this year.” It may occur to a few more that we already consider ourselves blessed more than we could have ever hoped for.
We tend to experience a wide range of feelings and emotions when it comes to this time of year. Christmas serves as a natural marker in our lives. We assess our experiences since last Christmas. We note the lives we’ve touched or who have touched ours. In some interesting way, we even tally up our year the way an accountant might reconcile business accounts.
As I look back over the year since last Christmas, like you, I’ve experienced wonderful successes, achieved personal milestones and enjoyed new relationships. Also, perhaps like you, I’ve suffered losses of family and friends and walked through some very difficult moments. But, I can truthfully say, I am Blessed: I’ve been blessed to say hello to new friends both personally and here at the Chamber.
I’ve been blessed to be a help to those who may have a need.
It might be hard for some to understand, but, as a person of faith, I’ve helped pray as a family member left us to grasp on to Him and prayed even harder for the ones left with their Christmas memories.
I’ve been blessed to place ornaments on my tree next to my lovely wife, Natalie, for 40 years.
One of our dear Chamber Ambassadors, Nondier Arboleda, refers to me as “The Father” here at the Chamber. It brings a smile to my face. I recall the Bible telling about the Father of a family pronouncing blessings on those he cares for.
So, with that thought in mind, allow me to pronounce my blessing on you this Christmas: May the fudge you enjoy this Christmas be of the peanut butter variety. Why? Because that’s what I like!
May the youngest member of your family share the sweetest hug with you.
May your best gift be one that has no price tag and cannot be purchased in a store.
May your favorite Christmas carol be playing on the radio every time you turn it on.
May you find a moment to walk in your neighborhood and enjoy the expressions of hope gleaming from carefullyplaced lights.
May you have an extra scoop of your favorite ice cream at your Holiday dinner. (see my Thanksgiving message) Finally, may the blessings of the Season shimmer in the glow of every light you see.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
