The Osceola County Sheriff's Office is investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another on life support Monday night.
Tuesday, OCSO identified the deceased victim as Asad Brinson, 18.
According to deputies, the agency received multiple calls around 8:19 p.m. of shots fired in the area of Tampa Avenue, located between Michigan Avenue and Orange Blossom Trail just south of Osceola Parkway. A neighborhood park is located at the corner of Tampa and Barn Street.
Deputies arrived to find two black males with apparent gunshot wounds. One male was located in a vehicle and was transported to a hospital where he was on life support as of Tuesday afternoon. The other male, later identified as Brinson, was found on the ground and pronounced deceased on the scene.
Eyewitness accounts at the HCA Florida Osceola emergency room late Monday night said police, security guards and fire rescue personnel had the ER on lockdown while they worked to identify and save the shooting victim found in the car.
As this is an active and ongoing investigation, Lopez said his team will provide updates when they become available.
Court records show Brinson was scheduled for trial in October after being arrested on Jan. 7 of this year and charged with grand theft of a firearm. During a traffic stop near Orange Blossom Trail and Osceola-Polk Line Road, law enforcement smelled cannabis in a car he was driving with three passengers, and a search of a car revealed concealed guns. Brinson admitted to possessing one that a serial number check showed to be stolen.
Brinson was also arrested on a misdemeanor affray charge when he was involved in what became a large-scale fight at the Osceola County Fair on Feb. 17, which caused the fair to be closed for the night.
