Time for KUA Calendar Art Contest — it’s 30th year!

An annual Kissimmee school tradition turns 30 years old this year — the Kissimmee Utility Authority Calendar Art Contest.

Osceola County students are invited to showcase their artistic expression to promote energy conversation for the annual calendar. The contest is open to Osceola County students enrolled in kindergarten through fifth grade, including public, charter, private, and homeschooled students.

In their entry, students are asked to use crayons, markers, or paints to depict an energy conservation message. A panel of local judges will select the 12 best entries to be used for each calendar month, which will be featured in the utility’s 2024 calendar.

The 12 winning students will also receive a $150 cash prize. A grand prize winner, selected from the 12 winning students, will have their photo featured on the calendar cover along with their name and artwork affixed to one of KUA’s fleet vehicles for one year. Each student who submits an entry will receive a calendar and a chance to win tickets to the Island H20 Water Park for their family.

To further encourage participation across schools, the grand prize winner’s school will receive $750 in art supplies, and the school with the most total entries in the contest will receive $500 in art supplies.

The official entry form and contest details are available on the utility’s website at www.kua.com/ calendar. Completed entries must be received at KUA offices at 1701 W. Carroll St. in Kissimmee by Oct. 31.

Help City of Kissimmee streamline its website design The City of Kissimmee is asking for a little help with its website—think you know how to navigate it?

The city is updating it, with the goal of “a more service-oriented design,” and getting visitors to the information they need in the fewest clicks possible.

As part of the process, a new approach to organizing menu content is being proposed and is ready to be tested — and here’s where you come in.

Head to this website — bit.ly/449b1TM — and go through a few tasks that lead you through the site’s categories to accomplish a task such as filing for a permit or reporting a crime. Do this test of new navigation prior to Sept. 6.

“We hope you can spare a few minutes, and participate in this brief user experience test of the new navigation and make our website better for everyone in the community,” the city said.

Orlando Health St. Cloud ER lab accredited by College of American Pathologists

Laboratories at three Orlando Health facilities, including Orlando Health Emergency Room — Osceola, have received accreditation from the College of American Pathologists.

Accreditation of a hospital laboratory benefits patients by ensuring accurate and reliable test results, maintaining a focus on patient safety and promoting high standards of quality in diagnostic services. Accredited labs are also recognized for having efficient systems in place for timely reporting of results. This can help physicians make faster treatment decisions, particularly in critical cases.

“Laboratories are an integral part of patient care. Tests run in the lab provide results that help doctors solve the mystery of what’s going on inside a patient’s body,” said Orlando Health Laboratory Director Carol Fortier. “This accreditation shows our commitment to quality care with top-notch equipment, skilled staff and rigorous processes that enable the best experience for our patients.”

During the accreditation process, inspectors examined each laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures. Inspectors also examined laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and overall management. These reviews help verify that activities reflect the most recent best practices. To receive and maintain accreditation, labs must adhere to strict safety protocols, which reduce the risk of errors, contamination and accidents in the laboratory.
