A Kissimmee barber reported missing earlier this week who troopers say drove into a pond near Buenaventura Lakes may have been there for days.
Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash on Waters Edge Drive near Blue Bayou Drive early Friday afternoon. That's south of Osceola Parkway and east of Buenaventura Boulevard. In a retention pond, dive crews found the Cadillac ATS of Jose Malave, who had been reported missing earlier in the week.
According to FHP, the Cadillac reportedly failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway, struck a utility box and traveled into a pond. The driver was trapped inside that car as it submerged in water. Malave, 36, was found submerged in the car and deceased Friday just after 1 p.m.
Family said Malave, owner of the Barberos barber shop, went to a Mother's Day event over the weekend in Orange County and had not been seen since. He was reported missing on Tuesday.
