For the fifth year — and fresh off providing holiday gifts and meals to families who can’t afford them — A Hero For Kids will hold its Real Heroes Don’t Wear Capes Awards Gala.
It will be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Orlando—Lake Buena Vista South on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 5-9 p.m, and the theme is “Beauty and the Beast.”
This is the second year the event is held in January, outside of its usual fall date. In 2022, founder John Kalish said he didn’t want to pull first responders away from their cleanup work in the community after Hurricane Ian, and said a shorter January event gave more time to plan and recruit sponsors.
A Hero For Kids will recognize unsung heroes in our community who go above and beyond. Besides honoring those in a number of traditional categories— Law Enforcement Officer, Firefighter, Medical Professional, Non-Profit, Local Business, Volunteer, Veteran, Citizen, Teacher, Inspirer — the organization will also recognize a Lifetime Achievement awardee who has spent their life in service to our community, along with presenting a Founder’s Award to someone special to the organization.
Past events have raised thousands of dollars in order to provide for the children and families of Osceola County.
