A Davenport woman was killed on Interstate 4 Tuesday morning, when Florida Highway Patrol troopers say she was traveled the wrong way and collided head on with another driver.
According to FHP's report, just after 4:30 a.m. the woman was headed westbound in the eastbound center lane of I-4 near Lee Road in Winter Park. Her Nissan Altima struck the Kia Optima of a 50-year-old Orlando woman. The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead on the scene; the other driver was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The report did not give any indication where or how the wrong-way driver accessed I-4's eastbound lanes to travel west. The crash, which closed the eastbound regular-travel lanes of I-4 — forcing drivers to use the I-4 Express Lanes or a detour onto alread-clogged surface streets — remains under investigation.
