World-class soccer coming to Orlando

World-class soccer is coming to Orlando this summer as Camping World Stadium and Florida Citrus Sports hosts the Florida Cup on July 25 and 28.

The semifinals, set for Sunday, July 25, will begin at 6 p.m. with a long-awaited contest between Italy’s defending Serie A champion, Inter Milan, and legendary English Premier League side Arsenal, winners of the 2020 FA Cup. The second semifinal follows with the other match pitting historic Everton, also of the Premier League, against Colombian powerhouse Millonarios FC.

First-round losers will play a third-place game at 6 p.m. on July 28, with the winners meeting in the second half of the doubleheader for the Florida Cup championship.

Single-day tickets for either date include both contests and start at $44 plus taxes and fees. Two-day passes tart at $90.

“The Florida Cup represents an important milestone for Florida Citrus Sports and will play a huge role in helping us grow our impact throughout the central Florida region,” Florida Citrus Sports CEO Steve Hogan said. “We are thrilled to welcome these powerful global brands and their legions of passionate fans to Orlando as we build on the city’s history as a major international soccer destination and embark on this new, exciting challenge.”

The Florida Cup is an annual soccer event in which clubs come together for a friendly exhibition competition in the Sunshine State. Created in 2015, it has featured teams from the top 100 in the European rankings as well as teams from the top 50 in the South American rankings. The format of the Florida Cup changes each year.

“We are so happy to be able to bring such a powerful international lineup to Orlando and central Florida as we connect Europe and South America once again,” Florida Cup CEO Ricardo Villar said. “We look forward to delivering an outstanding training experience for our participating clubs, while also providing an exciting week of action and entertainment to local fans and club supporters.”

Inter Milan enters the Florida Cup having won Italy’s top league for the first time since 2010. Overall, Inter Milan has won 19 Serie A titles, including five straight championships for the Nerazzurri from 2006-10. Arsenal has won four of the past eight FA Cups in addition to 13 top-flight titles.

The last meeting between Inter and Arsenal came in 2003, when the sides met in the UEFA Champions League Group Stage. Both matches were high-scoring affairs with Inter winning 3-0 in London and Arsenal winning 5-1 in Milan.

Everton, meanwhile, has spent more seasons (118) in England’s top division than any other club and has won the Premier League nine times. The Toffees have also won five FA Cups, and the current roster features a pair of beloved Colombian stars in midfielder James Rodriguez and defender Yerry Mina.

Millonarios FC, based in Bogota, is one of Colombia’s most successful and historic clubs and has won the top Colombian league, Categoría Primera A, 15 times. In 2018, Millonarios also defeated Atlético Nacional 2-1 on aggregate to win the Superliga Colombiana title, the club’s most recent major championship.

Camping World Stadium has been no stranger to big-time soccer events. The facility played host to several major top-tier international soccer events since the addition of the venue’s upper decks in 1990. That run includes five matches during the 1994 FIFA World Cup and a total of nine men’s and women’s matches during the 1996 Olympic Games. Camping World Stadium also is currently a candidate to host games during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
