The post season is here for most high school spring sports

BASEBALL

The Osceola Kowboys hoped to maintain their first place seeding in the Class 7A, District 6 as they played Cypress Creek this week in their regular season finale. Osceola, 16-6 on the season, defeated Gateway 10-0 last week as Josean Sanchez hit a grand slam. Heading into the Cypress Creek game, Osceola was riding a sixgame winning streak and had won nine of their last 10 games. Osceola’s 1-2 pitching duo of Manuel Lopez and Shawn Lara were a combined 8-2 on the season. Lopez had a 0.79 ERA heading into this week’s action.

Harmony was at 16- 6-1 heading into its final regular season game against Windermere on Wednesday. The Longhorns split a pair of games last week, defeating Bishop Moore, 4-3, but losing a 2-1 squeaker to The First Academy – a team with a 21-1 record that was ranked ninth in the state in Class 3A. The Longhorns continue to show a balanced attach at the plate and on the mound. Led by freshman Anthony Medina (.409), Harmony had seven regulars hitting over .300 and boasted a team batting average of .301. Pablo Torres (3-0, 0.44 ERA) and Caden Scarborough (1-3, 2.24 ERA) have each struck out more than a batter an inning to lead a Harmony staff with a collective 1.80 ERA.

After losing a tough 5-4, extra inning affair to Cypress Creek, the St. Cloud Bulldogs (11- 7) got back on the right track with a 10-2 win over Celebration. St. Cloud finished its regular season this past week with a pair of games against Poinciana (2-10). Senior Gabriel Cadet was hitting .433 for the Eagles.

Celebration was 10-8 after losing to St. Cloud (10-2) and Cornerstone (4- 0) and defeating Gateway (9-2) last week. Yeremay Moreno leads the Storm with a .362 batting average. The Panthers, 5-9 on the season, were led in hitting by a trio of sophomores in Jose Montalvo (.463), Austin Montalvo (.355) and Yamil deJesus (.333). Liberty was 4-15 and Tohopekaliga was 5-11 heading into the last week of regular season play.

CHARITY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The Kowboys Home Run Club is hosting a charity golf tournament on May 1 at Royal St. Cloud Golf Club.

FLAG FOOTBALL

Harmony defeated Poinciana, 21-0, to clinch the Orange Belt Conference Championship with a perfect 7-0 incounty record. The Lady Longhorns, 10-3 on the season, outscored county schools 175-25 in the seven OBC games.

All county teams began district playoff action this week. St. Cloud finished the regular season at 6-3. Harmony is the host and top-seed in the Class 2A, District 9 tournament that features seven Osceola county schools.

The Championship Game is today (Apr. 22) at 6 p.m. Gateway traveled to Port St. Lucie for a quarterfinal game in the Class 1A, District 6 game.

LACROSSE

Celebration (10-2) defeated Lakeland, 15-7, to capture the Class 2A, District 7 Championship. The Lady Storm now move on to the Regional Semifinals where they host Vero Beach (13-1) tonight (Apr. 22).

SOFTBALL

Led by a trio of outstanding sophomores in Nayeli Hernandez (.528, 29 Runs, 28 hits), Gabriela

Avia (.440) and Kayleh Jones (.352. 2 HR, 27 RBI), Osceola entered the final week of regular season play with a 13-9 record. The Lady Kowboys took a four-game winning streak into today’s season finale with Boone High School. First year Liberty

First year Liberty Head Coach Rich Colom had the Lady Chargers at 18-4 after a 4-0 week that included wins over Ocoee, Poinciana, St. Cloud and Davenport Ridge. Liberty out-scored the opposition 56-7 in those games. Liberty was hitting a robust .458 as a team, led by junior Jehna Morales (.525, 9 HR, 37 RBI) and junior Kayleen deJesus (.446, 3 HR, 29 RBI). Sophomore pitcher Abigail Esparza with a 0.56 ERA.

Delaney Carnell slapped two home runs. Hannah Nasco added a solo shot as St. Cloud, 10- 13 on the season, broke a two-game losing streak with a 10-2 win over East River. The Lady Bulldogs concluded the regular season with non-district games against East Ridge and Cornerstone.

Heading into the final week of the regular season saw county teams Celebration (6- 7), Tohopekaliga (2-13), Gateway (4-10) and Poinciana (2-12) with sub .500 records. Harmony was 3-9 heading into its final two games of the regular season finales against West Orange and Celebration last week.
