Construction is scheduled to begin next week, the week of Aug. 10, on improvements at rail crossings at Vine Street and Clay Street, resulting in an updated Quiet Zone.
The project includes updated railroad signage and pavement markings, along with more extensive median extensions and delineator installations at the East Oak Street railroad crossing. Work is expected to be completed by November 2026.
During this time while the federally required improvements are underway, city of Kissimmee officials said train engineers are required to sound their horns at public railroad crossings. Once the required work is completed, routine train horn use will end within the designated Quiet Zone.
The City is working closely with the Federal Railroad Administration, the Florida Department of Transportation, Central Florida Rail Corridor partners, and its engineering consultants to complete the required improvements.
