Bassmaster Magazine released its annual 100 Best Bass Lakes rankings, and Lake Tohopekaliga and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes figured high in the rankings.
As the United States celebrates its 250th birthday, Bassmaster Magazine is honoring one of America’s greatest public treasures, its world-class bass fisheries.
Today, the publication releases its annual 100 Best Bass Lakes rankings, and Lake Tohopekaliga and the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes figured high in the rankings.
Compiled by the editorial staff of Bassmaster Magazine, the rankings are based on tournament results, state fisheries data, input from fisheries biologists, B.A.S.S. Nation leaders and local experts, as well as feedback from anglers across the country.
Overall, Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain placed seventh on the Top 10 Bass Lakes, and was the highest Florida laker system on the list.
In the Southeastern Region, the Kissimmee Lakes ranked second, behind only the Santee (S.C.) Cooper Lakes, and ahead of the Withlacoochee River and Lake Rousseau.
Here’s what Bassmaster says about the Kissimmee Chain: The four primary lake chain has always been a destination, but it might be the best in Florida this year, although the weather made the early spring weights a little more pedestrian than they otherwise would have been ... When Mother Nature cooperated, it almost always took 30 pounds or more to win a tournament during the main stretch of the spawn. The early springtime always gets the love from national series, but the Kissimmee Chain is good all year long. A touch over 30 pounds earned first place in the April 26 Xtreme Bass Series tournament out of Lake Toho. Then, the winning team in the May 3 Xtreme Bass Series event out of Lake Kissimmee blasted 38 pounds and anchored its giant sack with a 10.36-pound largemouth. That wasn’t even the big bass of the tournament, which ended up being 10.48.
