A 21-year-old St. Cloud man is in jail after Sheriff’s deputies say he caused a crash that involved a Sheriff’s Office pickup truck on East U.S. Highway 192 late Monday night while chasing after his ex-girlfriend in another car.
Christian Andres Rivera was arrested early Tuesday and charged with two counts of attempted murder, discharging a gun from a vehicle and fleeing and eluding police. He was booked into the Osceola County Jail where he awaits an initial court appearance as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Capt. Kim Montes, the department received a 911 call from a 17-year-old female from Kissimmee reporting she was being chased just after 11 p.m. Monday. Investigators have determined she was riding in a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by a 20-year-old male from Kissimmee on Partin Settlement Road when the suspect, driving a BMW 330I, began chasing them. Deputies say the suspect is the 17-year-old’s ex-boyfriend.
According to police, the suspect fired shots into the passenger side of the Mitsubishi, which attempted to then drive into the parking lot of the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, while the 17-year-old was on the phone with 911. While on 192, the BMW rammed the Mitsubishi from behind, sending it out of control into the eastbound lanes. It then struck a marked Sheriff’s Office pickup truck responding to this call. The crashed Lancer ended up just in front of a 192-facing residence.
According to police, the suspect fled from the crash scene, turned off his headlights to avoid capture and took Florida’s Turnpike to a relative’s house in St. Cloud. Rivera was found at the residence Tuesday morning and taken into custody without incident.
The Sheriff’s Office reports the deputy was treated and released from the hospital, and the two victims in the Mitsubishi were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.
