Led by an impressive performance by defending state champion Nathan Lyttle, the Harmony Longhorns sent eight wrestlers to the finals and captured seven individual championships to claim the 2026 OBC team championship Wednesday.

Harmony tallied 220.5 team points to easily outdistance second place Gateway (127). Celebration (122) was third and Osceola (115.5) – which had won the last three team championships and 11 of the last 14 – was a distant fourth.

In the girls wrestling, Harmony had seven champions to win their first OBC team title with 201 points. Osceola, who won the first three official OBC girls titles in 2023-25, was second with 117 points; Tohopekaliga (96) was third.

“It was a good day for Harmony wrestling,” Vic Lorenzano said. “No real surprises but I was pleased with how some of our younger guys stepped up to pick up valuable consolation points. I don’t like looking too far ahead, but with a couple of weeks to go in the regular season I think we’re getting close to where we want to be.”

Lyttle was outstanding. He needed just three minutes and 27 seconds of mat time to record three first period pins and cruise to the 120-pound championship. Longhorn 2025 state podium placers Nevan Irving and Nathan Barrett were equally impressive. irving pinned Gateway’s Matias Cuevas and recorded a 13-4 major decision over Osceola’s Jose Herrera to win the 132-pound title, and Barrett dominated the 157-pound class with two first period pins leading to a 17-4 technical fall in the final against Osceola’s Jonathan Olmo.

Lorenzano also praised the effort of senior Brody Williams, who trailed Gateway’s Jose Davalillo, 9-5, heading into the final period before recording a takedown and a pin to capture the 138-pound title. “Brody is a great kid, who works hard. It was nice to see him win an OBC title in his senior year.”

Other Harmony champions included Sebastian Rodriguez (106), Carlos Lopez (144) and Elijah Akers (150).

Celebration posted three champions in Jared Alvarez (126), Israel Serrano (175) and Ahmad Mraidl (285). In one of the more exciting finals of the night, Gateway’s Jason Perez picked up the Panthers lone championship – recording a third period escape to edge Harmony Leo Ortiz, 1-0. Tohopekaliga had two champions in Bryan Battles (165) and Valentino Benavides (215) – who recorded a wild 25-22 win in the finals over Rey Siera. The Bulldogs posted the other OBC champion, as Joenel Roman recorded a 16-5 major decision over Osceola’s top-seeded Wilkendir Rivera at 190.

Osceola, who won three straight titles from 2023-25, placed six wrestlers in the finals but failed to win an individual championship for the first time in OBC history.
