The Florida Department of Transportation has announced it will close the northbound lanes of State Road (S.R.) 535 (Vineland Road) near the intersection of Osceola Parkway in Kissimmee from 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, to 6 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, for overhead signage installation.
Northbound S.R. 535 will be closed between the eastbound West Osceola Parkway on ramp and North Poinciana Boulevard. Northbound motorists will be detoured onto West Osceola Parkway, make a U-turn at Sunrise City Drive, return west to the 535 off ramp onto North Poinciana Boulevard to re-access 535. (See attached map above). Drivers coming from 192 can also use northbound Poinciana Boulevard to access northbound 535.
As part of an ongoing project, FDOT has installed a new traffic signal at the intersection of State Road (S.R.) 535 (South Apopka-Vineland Road) and Interior Street near Kissimmee in Osceola County. The signal is operating in flash mode and is expected to become fully operational in the coming days, FDOT says.
"The signal is intended to improve traffic flow and enhance safety in the area. Drivers on S.R. 535 will encounter a yellow flashing light, which serves as a temporary alert to help motorists adjust to the new signal before it is fully activated with red, yellow, and green lights," an FDOT release said this week. "While the signal is flashing yellow, drivers should remain alert and proceed with caution. Drivers should yield to pedestrians, bicyclists, or vehicles already in the intersection and ensure it is clear before continuing."
The work on 535 from 192 to International Drive in Orlando began last fall. The upgrades include resurfacing the roadway, upgrading curb ramps and crosswalks, adding new pavement markings, enhancing signals at key intersections, and modifying access at Poinciana Boulevard to allow only right turns.
