Here’s a capsule of this week’s other football games: Poinciana moved to 3-0 for the first time after beating St. Cloud—for the first time—197 last week in a game called by weather in the fourth quarter. The Eagles are Osceola County’s only remaining undefeated team.
Quarterback Cameron Brown threw for a touchdown to Chance Frazier and ran for two others from 19 and 27 yards out, and the defense helped secure the win with three turnovers, fumbles recovered by Jamel George and Ricardo Sanchez and an interception by Ernest Nunn.
“We’ve just got a bunch of guys who are tired of being left out of the conversation,” said Coach Taron Mallard, who also played for Poinciana.
The Eagles play their first home game Friday against Orlando Evans, who has played local powers Apopka (6-0) and Jones (28-21) to tight losses.
“That’s a really competitive group that played with one of the best teams in Central Florida,” Mallard said after watching the Jones-Evans game Saturday. “They’re very physical with the athletes to match up with us. The great thing about our kids is that Evans just represents the next opponent who they respect the same. They want to show exactly where we are as a program on Friday.”
Gateway will go for a two-game win streak Friday after notching its first win last week. The Panthers (1-2), who took down Cypress Creek (0-3), 12-0, Friday, line up against Lake Region, who Celebration bet 48-6 in a game that was continued into Monday.
“Man, the kids were celebrating a win they needed after we hadn’t won in a year and a half,” Panthers Coach Marlin Roberts said.
Celebration and Tohopekaliga (2-1) are on their bye weeks.
Harmony (0-3) will host Palm Bay Bayside on Friday.
Liberty (1-2), which had to finish its weather-delayed game with Oak Ridge on Monday, losing 13-0, will head back on the road Friday to play Winter Springs.
