Thousands awarded to cowboys, charities at 150th Silver Spurs Rodeo

Veteran cowboy Marcus Theriot of Lumberton, Miss., used his high finishes in tie-down roping, steer wrestling and team roping to earn the All-Around Cowboy honors at last weekend’s 150th Silver Spurs Rodeo at Osceola Heritage Park.

Cowboys and cowgirls from across the country competed in rodeo’s seven traditional events during the rodeo and took home over $116,000 in prize money.

They did it in front of packed crowds all weekend long, including a confirmed sellout on Saturday night.

At each performance, the rodeo paid honor and respect to the United States, its first responders and veteran military protectors. In addition, the Silver Spurs Riding Club and rodeo “Big Boss” Clifton Chapman made $5,000 charitable donations to the Osceola County Museum of Military History and Osceola County Meals on Wheels. Cowboys, rodeo queens and other members of the riding club also gave their time Sunday morning for the annual Special Needs Rodeo, getting down in the dirt to show children who need a helping hand the rodeo up close and personal.
