Thanks to one of downtown Kissimmee’s Valentine’s Day weekend traditions, many streets will be closed a portion of Saturday morning.
Due to the running of the annual Kissimmee 5K, Lakeshore Boulevard, Monument Avenue from Lakeshore to Broadway, Ruby Avenue, Bryan Street from Ruby to Randolph Avenue, and Lakeview Drive to the traffic circle near the Marina will be closed from 7-9 a.m., and no parking will be allowed on them after 5 a.m. Broadway/Emmett Street will remain open.
But, you shouldn’t be in your car anyway. You should be on foot, in your best sneakers, in the event that promotes heart health. A portion of the proceeds benefit the American Heart Association.
Participants will enjoy a serene lakeshore run as the early morning fog rolls over Lake Tohopekaliga. They will take in some of Kissimmee’s beautiful historic homes, and find great shopping and dining venues as they run through the historic downtown. Participants are certain to experience the best views of our charming and historic Downtown.
This event is for runners and walkers of all abilities. Strollers and pets are welcomed.
Part of the fun starts before the clock does. Participants are encouraged to dress in Valentine attire, as the event includes three costume contests. The “Cutest Cupid” will be awarded the individual who most embodies the Valentine icon, “Cupid”, the “Prettiest Pair” will be awarded the most unique running pair (2), and the Care Club award will be given to the largest group ( church/ organization/ business) represented. So, join Kissimmee Main Street in celebrating more than 14 years of fun, health, and giving.
Over 250 participants are already signed up. For information and to register — go to https://runsignup. com/Race/FL/Kissimmee/ KISSIMMEE5k.
