St. Cloud Boys & Girls Club to start registering next week

The upstart Boys & Girls Club location in St. Cloud is nearly ready to open, and will start registering children of the community ages 6 to 18 on Wednesday, Dec. 7.

Another event will be held Dec. 14, but due to space and staffing considerations, 40 slots for club members will be filled at first, so it’s important to register early.

A fundraising benefit breakfast will be held Jan. 27, 2023, the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida announced.

Newly-named Director Alex Lindsay is a veteran of working with children. He’s an alumnus of the club from his childhood, and has worked with the clubs and the Department of Juvenile Justice.

“I’m excited to be there for the opportunity,” he said. “I’ve met a lot of people in St. Cloud, and the reception has been terrific.”

Lindsay said the hope is for the St. Cloud Boys & Girls Club, in a facility located at 10th Street and Virginia Avenue, adjacent to Cannery Park and donated by the Osceola County School District, to open before the end of the year.

He also said that volunteers are also being sought for the club’s Education, Sports and Recreation, Arts and Health & Wellness programs. Those who want to help stock the club with supplies can purchase from its Amazon Custom Gift List: https:// amzn.to/3Fa2Hde The community has already raised $600,000 — three years of operating expenses — to be able to open the club in short order.
