The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) will hold a public meeting on Aug. 11 to discuss upcoming mobility and safety improvement options on Vineland Road (State Road 535) from U.S. Highway 192 U.S. 192 to north of World Center Drive (S.R. 536) into Orange County.
Those who frequent Vineland north past Osceola Parkway and Poinciana Boulevard know the road is a site of major traffic backups during most daylight hours, even outside of the morning and afternoon commute times.
The meeting is from 5-7 p.m. at Embassy Suites – Lake Buena Vista South (4955 Kyngs Heath Road, the hotel will not charge for parking). Those who attend can view a looping presentation and project displays, speak with project team members, and submit comments or questions.
A virtual option is also available with advance registration by visiting https://bit.ly/SR535PDE C. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting online. Participants may also join the meeting in listen-only mode by dialing 1-877-568-4108 and entering the passcode 418- 472-754 when prompted.
All meeting materials, including the presentation, will be available on the project website at www.cflroads.com/project/437174-2 prior to the meeting.
FDOT is looking for feedback to derive a PD&E study to develop and evaluate improvements to the highway, that will accommodate future traffic capacity while also adding safety enhancements as part of the $5.2 million project, the state department said. FDOT said it is also sending notices to nearby property owners, business owners, interested persons and organizations to provide the opportunity to offer comments and express their views regarding this project and the proposed improvements. The PD&E study will ultimately determine the location and conceptual design of the improvements.
Among alternatives — which all call for three 11-foot travel lanes in each direction — are continuous bicycle lanes, widened sidewalks or continuous paths that incorporate both.
