Arbor Day is April 29. It’s a day to celebrate nature and the environment by planting a tree.
Do you have your tree? If not, UF-IFAS Extension Services at Osceola Heritage Park can help on Saturday.
Osceola County residents can get one free tree per household at OHP Saturday. Extension Services will also hold online classes during the week prior to Saturday, as well as in-person ones on the day of the event. The class information, covering Tree Selection and Planting, helps people decide what tree they want based on size and other factors of their yard or space.
This is an annual event. It was held last year with tree pickup being “stay in the car!” and volunteers loaded their tree o ption. Some protocols may be in place, but it should still be easier than last year.
For those who sign up for a Zoom class today or Friday, tree pickup is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Online classes are being offered today from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Friday from 11 a.m.-noon. Sign up online at http://events.ifas.ufl.edu.
Those who attend in person Saturday will get their tree right after their class. An Advanced Tree Care class, which covers the basics of tree pruning and tips for keeping your trees healthy, will be from 10:30-11:30 a.m., and a more basic course from 1-2 p.m. that will also be offered in Spanish/ en Espanol. Attendees will receive their free tree directly after class.
So, do something on Saturday that helps the environment – for free!
