There’s a buzz about the hair-shaving St. Baldricks event designed to help beat pediatric cancer

Once again, there is a buzz around the St. Baldrick’s Foundation event Saturday in downtown Kissimmee. The fourth annual hair shavingfest in Kissimmee, which is designed to bring awareness to pediatric cancer and plays off of the St. Patrick’s Day name, will be held from 4 to 9 p.m.

Both the south and northbound lanes on Old Canoe Creek Road will reopen Wednesday returning traffic to nearly normal status after three months. The lanes will be reopened with temporary single lane closures scheduled for minor outlying work to be performed around the road.

Toho Water Authority is announcing the temporary closure of the northbound lane on Bass Road between Gardenstone Court and Paradise Cove Court starting the week of March 2. The lane will be closed Monday through Friday, between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Quite a Quilt: Osceola WWII veteran honored for his military service

Robert Kemp, Sr., a World War II Navy veteran, was presented a quilt by Central Florida Quilts of Valor. The presentation took place on Jan. 21 at the Osceola Museum of Military History. Kemp celebrated his 95th birthday the day prior.

Elderly resident loses $10,000 in phone scam

Osceola deputies are searching for a suspect who stole $10,000 from an elderly resident in a phone scam. On Wednesday, the victim received a call from an unknown person, who told that her grandson was arrested and needed $10,000 to bond out, according to an Osceola County Sheriff’s Office report.
