News Service of Florida Florida posted its first unemployment-rate uptick of the year in July. The state Department of Commerce on Friday said the unemployment rate in July was 2.7 percent, up from a 2.6 percent rate that had remained the same since January.

 A man provided some doorbell cameras in a Kissimmee neighborhood with quite the video early Monday morning, as police say he tried to gain access to a number of homes — naked. Giovanni Alcaraz, 23, was arrested around 2 a.m.

Osceola County Sheriff’s investigators say a St. Cloud woman admitted to choking her teenage son to death on a bed at her home south of the city Monday morning. Jasmin Kennedy, 37, has been charged with domestic battery by strangulation, child neglect and aggravated child abuse.

Florida gas prices pulled back a bit the end of last week after setting another 2023 high early in the week, AAA reported in its weekly release Monday.  The state average jumped 11 cents per gallon, reaching a new 2023 high of $3.85 per gallon on Thursday.
