Veterans' Voice — Military Job Fair comes Dec. 16

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and Recruit Military Job Fair will be held on Dec. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Avanti Palms Resort and Conference Center (6515 International Drive) in Orlando. The job fair currently has almost 50 exhibitors on board and is open to all veterans and spouses.

Recruit Military is the largest military-focused recruiting company in the U.S. and its services are free of charge to veterans and their spouses during their job search, according to the company’s website. DAV is one of the oldest veterans’ organizations in the country, and while primarily devoted to helping disabled veterans, their scope also includes assisting veterans in general whenever possible, such as being a partner in this job fair.

Prospective attendees are encouraged to register on the website and be prepared for on-site interviews.

The Independence Fund and Loyal Source launch Afghanistan Call Center

The Independence Fund was formed in 2007 to empower catastrophically wounded, injured, or ill Veterans to overcome physical, mental, and emotional wounds incurred in the line of duty. The Fund strives to bridge the gap of unmet needs for Veterans and their caregivers

In recognition of the service and a sacrifice of Afghan Allies who served side-by-side with U.S. Armed Forces, The Independence Fund, with the assistance of other like-minded organizations, has expanded the scope of their existing crisis line to provide information relat ed to the withdrawal and relocation that occurred in September of this year.

Sarah Verardo, CEO of The Independence Fund, said, “We want Veterans, Afghans, and their family and friends to know The Independence Fund is here for them. We recognize your service and are prepared to help you navigate a complex system to get the care and services you need.”

The toll-free number for The Independence Line is 1-855-341-5456 and additional information can be found at https://independencefund.org/collections/save-our-allies

Military Comic Books … sort of

Depending on your age, you might call them comic books or graphic novels. Regardless of what you call them, the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) is offering some free ones. These are not Spider Man or Batman, however, but stories of veterans who received the Medal of Honor, from the Civil War to Afghanistan. Currently, there are twelve in all. If you happen to be a member of AUSA, you can get them in print for free, and anyone can read them online or download them for free. They are straightforward, suitable for adolescents and teen ages, and I liked them too!

While most of us always spare a thought for our brothers and sisters away form home and in harm’s way, please let’s make a particular effort this holiday season to do what we can for our fellow veterans in need or in crisis. Let us always strive to take care of each other, as we all once did during our service.

Please let us know what is on the minds of Osceola veterans by sending us an email at Osceolavets@gmail.com.
